Blessing and A Curse
June 6th, 2008 by Romelda
I have been giving Facebook a lot of thought lately, since my number of “friends” keeps growing along with the number of things I have been “challenged” to play, it is both a blessing and a curse. And the biggest blessing/curse problem I have with Facebook is the ability to be found.
I was discussing this capacity on Facebook with a friend, and their response to my “complaint” that anyone could find you was that I could turn off that feature and not be found at all. Well what’s the point in that I said – I want SOME people to be able to find me! The whole point of a social networking space and being on one is to “connect” with people you know, once knew or are friends with. There’s the rub. What if someone “thinks” they qualify as a “friend” from the past and you don’t actually share the same definition? Just because I knew your name in High School doesn’t define you as a friend.
I have three people waiting for a response to their friends invitations they sent to me.
The first person is a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend on that friend’s list. I don’t actually KNOW this person from Adam – except to know I THINK (I am not even positive of this) we played one of those damn games with a common friend – now I am supposed to add them to my friend list? I don’t subscribe to Six Degrees of Separation on Facebook.
